Originally built in the 1970s, this lakeside property featured aging fieldstone and timber retaining walls that were no longer stable or safe. Our clients needed a solution that would provide both long-term stability and an inviting way to enjoy their waterfront.
We designed a more organic and flowing layout, replacing the failing structures with a system of Rosetta Grand Ledge retaining walls and granite steps. The new design creates a seamless transition from home to dock, blending functionality with natural beauty.
To extend the space into the evening, we integrated low-voltage outdoor lighting to safely guide the path. A combination of Goshen Stone and Mystic Mountain Granite was used to create a durable, textured surface for dock access and a cozy patio area perfect for relaxing at the water’s edge.

The result is a lakeside landscape that’s not only safer and more functional, but also timeless — a space where the family can gather, relax, and enjoy their waterfront for years to come.
“We contacted Ben Stout of Mainely Outdoor Living as we wanted a landscape plan for our property that incorporated the following: Replacement of unsafe stairs to the lake, replacement of old failing retaining walls creation of a patio with a fire pit, plan to add more trees compliance with City Regulations and State Shoreline Rules.
Ben worked with us to develop an excellent plan that addressed all our issues. He recommended a list of contractors that were capable of doing the work which was very helpful. We are very happy with the results of the plan and the work the Contractor did.”
